Mahan Farm Hosts:
Wolfgang Scherzer Clinic

Wolfgang trained in Koln, Germany with the Master Horst Behrendt. He graduated with his Bereiter license and started training for a local club. After a brief interruption for mandatory military service, Wolfgang relocated to Sarasota, FL in 1983. He showed client horses regularly and began holding dressage clinics across the nation. Those clinics have ranged from Martha’s Vineyard, MA to Fairbanks, AK. While located in Panama City, FL he was the President of Equine Imports and over the course of several years, imported quality German horses for the American market.

Throughout his career, Wolfgang has continued his own education with top trainers. In the early 1990's he had an opportunity to work with Herbert Rehbein. He returned to Germany in the late 1990's with Dr. John Kirklin’s horse, Nexius, to train with Jean Bemelmans. Recently, Wolfgang has been able to ride with Conrad Schumacher on several occasions and even hosted Mr. Schumacher at his own Thistledown Farm in Wilsonville, AL.

Wolfgang and his wife, Holly, purchased their farm in 2002. Currently Wolfgang trains horses during the week and travels to clinics on the weekend. All of the training is based on the German System and great care is given to each horse as an individual.
